Boat and yacht rental prices in New York City

Boat types and guest limits

You can compare party boats, center consoles, sailboats, and yachts in the table above. These are captained rentals from local cruise and charter operators, not self-drive offers. SAIL NYC says all its rentals are private and captained; Narwhal Yacht Charters explicitly does not offer self-drive.

Guest capacity matters more than the boat’s category when choosing for your group. The stated limits below apply to individual boats, not every vessel of that type. For both sailboats and yachts, the published length is 50 feet on a single boat, so ask about the actual vessel rather than treating that as a typical length.

• Party boat: the boat with a stated limit allows 25 guests.
• Center console: the boat with a stated limit allows 6 guests.
• Sailboats: stated limits range from 6–12 guests.
• Yachts: stated limits range from 2–50 guests.

What the quoted prices cover

Yacht packages have medians of $850 for 2 hours, $2,000 for 4 hours, and $5,600 for 8 hours. The middle half of yacht prices is $700–$994 for 2 hours and $1,600–$3,600 for 4 hours; the longer package has fewer observations. Yacht hourly rates range from $300–$1,000 per hour, but confirm the minimum booking duration before multiplying an hourly rate.

Prices were checked Oct 14, 2026, using operators’ own published rate pages rather than platform listings. Coverage is 8 party-boat prices from 2 operators, 1 center-console price from 1 operator, 6 sailboat prices from 3 operators, and 17 yacht prices from 4 operators. The center-console quote is $550 for 2 hours; party-boat per-person quotes range from $75–$120 per person.

Captain inclusion does not mean every other expense is included. The yacht prices either leave fuel unspecified or list a flat fuel fee; sailboat prices either leave it unspecified or include it. Party-boat and center-console prices do not state their fuel policy, so ask for a written total before paying.

Narwhal Yacht Charters says its charter price includes fuel, insurance, and all fees, with no additional taxes. For other bookings, ask about taxes, the security deposit, damage liability, and gratuity; Empire Cruises publishes a captain-tip guideline of 10%–20% of the charter fee. Use the calculator to split the confirmed total, and see deposit and insurance questions before signing.

New York rules and operator policies

New York requires motorized-vessel operators to complete a state-approved safe boating course and hold the New York Safe Boating Certificate, subject to the livery-rental exception. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation says renters aged 18 and older may operate a motorized rental boat or PWC without the certificate after livery safety instruction. Renters under 18 need a safety certificate; see New York boating certificate requirements and confirm eligibility with the agency.

The listed charters include a captain, so these offers do not require you to take the helm. Empire Cruises says its corporate party cruises include a professional captain and crew at no additional cost. This is company policy, separate from the state’s operator-certificate rule.

Alcohol policies differ: Empire Cruises offers alcohol add-ons for guests aged 21 and older, while Narwhal permits guests to bring alcohol. Guest permission is not permission to operate after drinking; the operator must remain sober. Ask the captain about harbor no-wake restrictions and vessel inspection requirements, and ask the state agency for the applicable boating-under-the-influence rule.

Season and higher-priced days

Narwhal Yacht Charters operates from April through November. Boat-rental searches peak in July, according to Ahrefs search-demand figures covering October 2025 through September 2026. That measures search interest, not a published July price surcharge.

Empire Cruises says its quoted prices apply Monday through Wednesday, with increases Thursday through Sunday. It also applies package-specific minimum capacities, so confirm both the day’s rate and the minimum billable group. Narwhal allows rescheduling or a full refund for weather cancellations; compare the written terms using the weather-cancellation guide.

Departure docks and areas

Chelsea Piers is a named departure area for several operators, but your booking should confirm the exact dock. Big Apple Charters names Chelsea Piers, Dream Boat NY names Chelsea Piers Marina at Pier 59, and Narwhal names Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

Sail Away NY names Liberty Marina, while SAIL NYC says its boats are located in Jersey City and Manhattan. Dream Boat NY describes outings on New York Harbor. Confirm where your trip starts and ends before arranging your group’s transportation.

Platforms versus direct booking

Direct operators set their own rates, captain arrangements, and fuel rules; booking platforms list boats from multiple owners and add their own service fees and policies. Compare the final checkout total with the operator’s written quote, rather than comparing only the advertised starting price. The table above covers direct operator rate pages.

If you do not want to drive, the captained charters shown here already meet that requirement. Ask whether the booking is private and whether the quoted capacity fits your group. Read how captained rentals work before comparing offers.
