How this number is built

  • The week price is the median for the destination, yacht, crew and season of your month.
  • Taxes, permits and the skipper’s fee are added when the destination’s sources list them.
  • APA is an advance for food, fuel and marina fees on crewed charters; what is not spent comes back.
  • Other lengths scale the week price to your nights, and the board says so.
  • No prices for a destination? The board uses its region and labels the result.

Weekly prices by destination

The BVI median is $13,025 per week across 20 published prices; Greece’s median is €14,500 per week across 9 published prices. These are destination summaries, not like-for-like comparisons of the same yacht type and season.

Use the table above to compare the available prices, then set your destination, yacht type, charter arrangement, month, nights and guests in the calculator. Greece has fewer published prices in this comparison, so ask for a quote matching your dates and boat before treating its median as your budget.

French Polynesia’s high-demand charter season runs from June to August, according to Tahiti Charter. Compare your month within each destination rather than assuming a destination-wide median applies throughout the year.

Costs beyond the advertised rate

The advertised charter rate is not necessarily your trip total. Yachtco says guests pay separately for fuel, marina fees and provisioning on its charters, including required provisioning for the skipper and crew.

Ask for an itemized quote before using the calculator’s total to split costs. Read bareboat, skippered and crewed charter differences to check which services you are paying for.

  • VAT: DMA Yachting says Italy charges 22% VAT on the charter fee in proportion to time spent in EU waters. It generally applies to the base price, not APA, unless the charter is all-inclusive.
  • Skipper and cook: Croatia Yachting lists a skipper at €200–€260 per day, including their food, and a separate chef at €240–€320 per day.
  • Mandatory extras and tourist tax: Croatia Yachting lists a transit log at €180–€340 per charter and tourist tax at €1.50–€2.50 per person per night.
  • Cruising permits and marinas: ask which permits your route requires and whether berthing is included. Bahamas Customs says anchorage fees apply to foreign pleasure vessels not mooring at a marina.
  • Fuel, provisioning and APA: check whether these are separate charges, funded through APA or included in the quoted package.
  • Crew tip and refundable deposit: ask whether a tip is included and request the deposit amount, release conditions and deductions in writing. Keep the deposit separate from trip spending; see crew tipping guidance.

What APA pays for

APA is an advance fund for expenses such as mooring, fuel and food on a Mediterranean crewed charter, according to Helm. Under MYBA terms, Helm gives a usual allowance of 25–35% of the charter fee for sailing yachts and catamarans, and 35–40% for motor yachts. You pay it separately from the base charter fee before departure. Ask how expenses are accounted for, whether additional funds may be needed and how any unused balance is returned.

Notes

Questions people ask

Note AHow much does it cost to charter a yacht for a week?

The published median is $13,025 per week in the BVI and €14,500 per week in Greece. Use the destination comparison to choose where to investigate, then confirm the inclusions in your quote.

Note BHow much is a yacht charter per person?

Use the calculator to divide the trip total among your guests. Confirm VAT, crew charges, fuel, provisioning, permits, marina fees and any tip before treating that figure as your spending budget.

Note CDoes every crewed yacht charter charge APA?

No. Helm says Caribbean charters generally include food, fuel and marina costs in an all-inclusive charter fee rather than charging a separate APA.

Note DWhat should I check before booking a bareboat charter?

Confirm both your qualifications and the operator’s experience requirements. Sail Connections says Greece requires a recognized qualification and practical experience for the nominated skipper; check bareboat sailing certificate requirements before booking.

Note EAsk before you pay

  1. Is VAT in the week price?
  2. Is there an APA, and how much of it comes back?
  3. What does the skipper cost per day, and who feeds them?
  4. Which cruising permits and park fees are extra?
