Charter bases
Balearic marinas can be heavily booked during the busy summer months, so reserve important overnight stops ahead. Sail Connections recommends advance reservations for stops that matter to your itinerary. Ask the charter company which months it treats as high and low season before comparing quotes.
Your route needs to allow for suitable conditions, particularly if you plan to anchor overnight. Ask the operator about wind exposure, weather-related route changes and the official marine forecast to consult before departure. Confirm who decides whether conditions require a different overnight stop.
Some Ibiza charter quotes exclude Spain’s 21% VAT, and Easyboat lists skipper fees of €150–€300 per day. Confirm both items before comparing a bareboat quote with a skippered or crewed yacht. Use the calculator and the weekly charter cost guide to organize the full budget.
Easyboat says weekly Ibiza charters usually carry a 10–20% discount compared with the daily rate multiplied by seven. Ask for a written weekly quote for each monohull, catamaran or motor yacht you are considering, with the crew arrangement identified. The bareboat, skippered and crewed comparison explains which responsibilities stay with your group.
Fuel is usually excluded from Ibiza charter prices, according to Easyboat. Ask whether your quote includes fuel, marina berths, anchoring charges, provisioning and any cruising permit or per-person tourist charge. For a crewed yacht, request the APA amount, what it pays for and how unused funds or additional spending are settled.
Easyboat lists Ibiza security deposits of €500–€3,000 per charter, depending on the vessel, and says Spanish law requires third-party liability insurance. It reports that this insurance is included in the Ibiza charter rate; ask separately about damage liability and deposit deductions. Crew tips are customary rather than mandatory, with Easyboat giving 10–15% of the charter price as typical for crewed Ibiza charters.
Spain requires an appropriate recognized sailing qualification for the skipper of a bareboat charter yacht in the Balearics, according to Sail Connections. An ICC, RYA qualification or accepted national certificate may meet the requirement, depending on the yacht and qualification. Ask the Spanish maritime authority for the final word on your certificate and the yacht you intend to charter.
Charter operators also require proof of sufficient practical experience for the yacht’s type and size, according to Sail Connections. That company requirement is separate from the legal qualification requirement. Send your certificate and experience record before committing to the booking, and use the bareboat sailing certificate guide to prepare your questions.
A radio operator’s certificate may be requested by the charter agency, although Marina Balear says it is not mandatory by law. Confirm the agency’s requirement for your particular yacht. Sail Connections says professional skippers can be added to many yachts if your qualifications or experience do not meet the requirements.
Palma and Ibiza marinas are the main Balearic charter bases identified by Easyboat. Sail Connections describes Palma de Mallorca as offering the greatest choice of monohull sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts in the archipelago. Compare the departure base as well as the yacht when requesting quotes.
Ask each company for the exact departure marina and the name of the operator responsible for handover and support. Confirm whether departure and return use the same berth, and whether overnight berthing at the base is included. A quote labeled Mallorca or Ibiza should still identify where you collect the yacht.
A charter week is better focused on Mallorca and nearby islands or on Ibiza and Formentera, according to Sail Connections. Choose one area rather than trying to cover the wider archipelago. Use the charter destination comparison if you are still deciding where to spend your week.
Ask the operator to build the daily outline around your departure base, preferred overnight stops and return requirements. Request passage distances and estimated sailing times before agreeing to the itinerary. Overnight anchoring is allowed in the Balearics, but environmental restrictions and suitable conditions still apply.
Notes
Not always. Easyboat says some Ibiza charter prices exclude Spain’s 21% VAT, so request a quote that clearly states whether it is included.
Yes, provided the skipper meets Spain’s recognized qualification requirement and the charter company’s practical-experience requirements. Confirm acceptance of your certificate for the specific yacht before booking.

Sail Connections recommends Ibiza and Formentera as a focused area for a charter week. Ask your operator to plan the stops around conditions, anchoring restrictions and marina availability.
