How we collect prices

The prices on this site come from operators’ own published rate pages, read one page at a time and checked on a stated date. The table holds 586 prices from 89 operators in 15 places, checked Oct 14, 2026.

Who runs this site

This is a small independent price-research site. Nobody on the site has rented, skippered or tested a boat for it. The pages report what operators, booking platforms and government agencies publish, with the source and the date it was checked.

The site is not a booking platform and does not take payments. Questions and corrections go to the e-mail address at the bottom of this page.

How prices are collected

For each place, we look up local rental operators in Google search and maps results. Before reading a site, we check its robots.txt file and its terms of use. If either one forbids automated access, the site is skipped and the reason is logged.

We read at most three pages per operator site and keep only prices that are written on the page. Each price row records the boat type, length and guest limit when the operator states them, the unit (per hour, package, per person or per night), the captain and fuel policy, the deposit and the date checked. In this round, 81 operator sites gave usable prices, 10 were skipped because their terms forbid automated access and 2 because robots.txt closes the page.

In a manual review on Oct 14, 2026, 83 rows were taken out: products that are not boat rentals (kayaks, paddleboards, per-seat tickets, children’s fares, bar packages, a captain’s day rate), duplicates, and prices from a page for another city. 100 rows were corrected: a wrong unit (for example, “4 hours: $810” read as an hourly rate), a wrong boat type, or a fee that applies only in some cases, such as a charge per guest over a set number.

A computer program checks every number against the text of the page it came from. A row whose price or duration cannot be found in the quoted text is dropped. Boat names and listing descriptions are not copied: the table uses a neutral label built from the numbers.

  • Booking platforms such as Boatsetter, GetMyBoat and Sailo are not read, because their terms of use prohibit automated collection.
  • Medians are shown only when there are at least 3 prices, and the middle half of prices only from 5 prices; with fewer, the page shows the lowest and highest price and says that prices are few.
  • Prices older than 120 days are marked as older prices.

How license rules are checked

License rules come from the boating agencies of each state and from Transport Canada. A program checks that every age, date and horsepower figure appears in the agency text it quotes. 16 of 22 state and country records are confirmed on agency pages; a state page is published only when its record is confirmed there.

The pages explain what the agency says. They are not legal advice, and the agency has the final word.

How the site makes money

Some buttons lead to booking sites. Those links start with /go/ on this site and open in a new tab. If a booking site runs an affiliate program and the site is accepted into it, a booking made after the click can earn a commission. Until a program accepts the site, the buttons lead to the brand’s official page and earn nothing.

Commissions do not change the prices you pay or the numbers in the tables. Brands without an affiliate program are reviewed with the same facts and the same checks.

How the pages are written

The page texts are written with an AI language model from facts we collected and saved first: listed prices with the date we read them, rules from state and provincial agencies, and platform terms. A script checks every number in a text against those saved facts, and a page that fails the check is not published.
