Georgia law and rental requirements
Georgia law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1998, to complete a Georgia Department of Natural Resources-approved boat education course before operating a motorized vessel. The department calls the document a Boat Education Course Completion Certificate. Renters operating a vessel of 10 horsepower or greater must watch a 10-minute education video and sign an orientation safety checklist; see Georgia’s boating education requirements for agency guidance.
Company age and identification policies are separate from those state requirements. The Port Royale Marina rental operator requires drivers to be at least 25, hold a valid driver’s license and complete its stated Boater Safety Course requirement. Aqua Sports Adventures requires drivers to be at least 21, rejects expired or temporary driver’s licenses, and specifies accepted boating-course credentials.
The US Army Corps of Engineers warns that boating under the influence carries strict penalties and possible loss of boating privileges. The operator must remain sober; the Port Royale Marina rental operator separately prohibits its designated driver from consuming alcohol. The Corps also directs boaters to watch for and immediately report submerged stumps, logs, rocks and shallow water.
- The Corps says most Lake Lanier boat ramps charge launch fees; ask whether your rental involves a separate ramp charge.
- Regattas or tournaments may require permits from the Corps and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
- Ask for the departure briefing on no-wake zones, inspections and restricted areas; the Port Royale Marina rental operator says restrictions apply to some boats.
Rental season and June demand
The Port Royale Marina rental operator offers rentals year-round, while boat-rental searches for Lake Lanier peak in June. That peak comes from Ahrefs search-demand measurements, not rental prices or a published surcharge. Confirm your operator’s opening schedule and ask whether your date carries a weekend or peak-period charge.
The Port Royale Marina rental operator says inclement weather does not qualify for refunds; it issues credit vouchers based on lost time. Its cancellation policy charges 10% more than 48 hours before the reservation and forfeits the full amount less than 48 hours before it. Read the terms alongside weather and cancellation questions before paying.
