You must create a personal account to use SamBoat’s services. SamBoat says booking forms a Rental Agreement subject to owner validation, so check that approval before committing to other trip arrangements.

The security deposit is separate from the rental price and remains required if you purchase deposit insurance. SamBoat says the deposit can cover damage, lost equipment, deductibles and penalties, and may initially be debited for repairs. Its deposit insurance may reimburse repair costs minus 10%, with a minimum deduction of €200 per reimbursement.
Your cancellation cost depends on the policy attached to the boat. SamBoat’s cancellation pages describe the tiers below, while its terms say service fees may be refunded as credit notes under certain conditions. Ask which policy applies and whether any refund would be money or credit.
- Flexible: the rental amount is refundable up to the day before departure, excluding SamBoat service charges.
- Zen: cancellation 5 days or more before departure gives the owner 30% of the rental amount, subject to SamBoat service-fee deductions; later cancellation gives the owner 100% of rental income.
- Moderate: cancellation more than 2 weeks before departure gives the owner 50% of the rental amount minus SamBoat service charges; less than 2 weeks before departure gives the owner 100% of rental income.
- Strict: no refund unless a BMS weather warning covers the entire rental period.
- Personalized: professional owners set their own conditions, with SamBoat fees excluded from refunds.
Who SamBoat suits
SamBoat suits renters who want to compare private and professional boats and choose between skippered and unskippered rentals. YachtingNews lists sailboats, catamarans, powerboats, inflatable boats, yachts and houseboats. Confirm the departure location and permitted guest capacity for your group rather than relying on the boat type alone.
An unskippered booking is the wrong choice if you cannot meet the boat’s operating requirements. Ask the owner what license, experience and documents are required, and check applicable legal requirements with the relevant agency separately. For a skippered rental, ask whether the skipper’s charge is included in the quote.
A Strict-policy booking is a poor fit if your group needs flexibility to cancel for personal reasons. Deposit insurance is also not a substitute for having the full deposit available. Before paying, check the cancellation terms and how the deposit will be held and released.
