Ask each platform for its applicable fees before deciding which costs less for your trip. Ask for the payable total, including any captain charge, fuel, platform fees, taxes, and other required charges, before comparing boats. Use the calculator with those quoted amounts rather than treating the advertised boat price as your group’s total. Boatsetter’s stated insurance and refund protection do not mean every loss or canceled trip qualifies.

Boatsetter says all boats are insured and offers rental insurance options, but you should request the applicable coverage, exclusions, deductible, and damage responsibility before paying. Its Promise describes refund eligibility for bad weather or a boat not as promised, rather than an unrestricted cancellation right. Sailo explicitly offers day and week rentals, while both services offer captain and no-captain options. Sailo also provides a Message Center for contacting owners and says most rentals show live availability for same-day booking; read the Sailo review and Boatsetter review for the separate service summaries.

Choose by destination and booking terms

Choose Sailo if you want to search its named destinations for a day or week rental and communicate directly with the owner; choose Boatsetter if its stated insurance options and conditional trip protection are features you want to examine before booking. Those are differences in the published descriptions, not a reason to assume one service has a lower total or more suitable boats. For your departure point, check actual availability, guest capacity, duration, and the captain arrangement.

Neither fits if you cannot find a boat whose operating requirements, total price, and cancellation terms work for your group. If you want to drive, ask the owner what qualifications and approval the booking requires; a no-captain option is not confirmation that you qualify. If you want a captained trip, confirm how the captain is booked and paid before committing.

The Boatsetter merger announcement is not a reason to treat the apps as interchangeable. Reporting after the announcement said both platforms and apps would remain active with no immediate changes for renters. The Boatsetter and GetMyBoat comparison explains that distinction, while the boat rental apps comparison offers a broader starting point.
